Abstract

The objective of this paper is to propose methods of obtaining rankings possessing the desirable properties. We present two methods. The first, based on DEA models and the second built on ratio indicators. The procedures produce rankings that do not depend on the specification of the model applied, weighting down objective criteria in the definition of global indicators and ordination. The methods are applied to a sample of 47 Spanish public universities, with data referring to 2008. Total orderings are obtained as teacher productivity, research productivity and overall productivity. The results are consistent with each other and with respect to others reported in the literature.
