Abstract

The tragic earthquakes occurred in the city of Lorca a fateful May 11th, 2011, came to alter sharply the peaceful development of local society, and gave way to a crisis that revealed the vulnerability of a city and its institutional organization. Seismic events occurred in a momentous event in local politics, as it was the celebration of the election campaign, giving way to a new issue called “earthquake management”, which dominated the political agenda of the municipality and demanded a crisis communication management strategy that didn’t leave indifferent to the public leadership and the outcome of elections. The interest in studying this case lies in knowing whether the communication strategy Lorca earthquake could promote public leadership and its possible impact on the electoral performance of the party with government responsibilities in May 2011
