Abstract
Emerging rural destinations framed in the international trend to value the heritage of rural land; it is noted by the World Tourism Organization aimed at decentralization of tourism management to rural development guideline. Also, the idea of promoting sustainable tourism, expresses the need to re-direct the management of rural areas that have become tourist products. Tourism policy calls for tourism to contribute to economic growth, inclusive social development and environmental sustainability. However, conditions for rural, such as sustainability, conservation and social participation and initiatives of public land use and tourism development does not provide enough for proper to approach the reality of the territory and rural development process elements. This paper shows partial results of a research study focuses on the analysis of tourism policy in rural areas. Exposes the case study of the Region of Murcia, which in the absence of evaluation instruments, characterizes the indicators that could measure the shortcomings of the model implemented tourism development and analyzes the amounts of funding that nourish the lines of action translated projects Touristic development. The aim is to provide elements to redirect efforts towards planning an integrated territory anchored to specific destination, i.e. in a sociocultural level; a connection between cultures, local ways of life and nature.
