Zusammenfassung

Entrepreneurship has aroused great interest in recent years. This responds to the necessity to boost employment, especially in economies such as the Spanish one, with high levels of unemployment in a crisis period ranging from 2007 to the present. As such, it is of particularly interest to analyze the attitude of young Spaniards to entrepreneurship, which is the objective of this article. The study uses a quantitative methodology based on the microdata from the national survey undertaken by the Center for Sociological Research: “Attitudes of Spanish young people to entrepreneurship” conducted by personal interview at home on a sample of 1.437, the compound population universe for young men and women between 15 and 29 years in Spain. The Theory of Social Capital – individually and collectively - has served as a framework for analysis and the results show that young Spaniards have a capital weak, marking a reluctant attitude towards entrepreneurship. The conclusion to be drawn from these results is that the socialization of young people in a labor market marked by job instability weakens the social capital that induces entrepreneurship and risk-taking and, on the contrary, promotes a conservative attitude at work.
