Abstract

Age calculation algorithms for aspartic acid D/L values analysed in the ostracode species Cyprideis torosa for Upper Pleistocene and Holocene were determined for two different environmental scenarios in Iberian Peninsula: areas with a mean annual temperature of 16ºC (Bañolas and Padul), and those with a mean annual temperature of 18ºC (Cartagena). The best mathematical approach for Bañolas and Padul was found to be that which correlates the square root of time and Asp D/L values, whereas for Cartagena the relationship between age and Asp D/L provided the highest correlation coefficient. Using these algorithms sites up to 30 ka will be able to be dated and, therefore, with application to paleoenvironmental, geomorphological and palaeoentological studies.
