Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyze the records of merits presented by Chaplains of the Navy to get an ecclesiastical prebend in Colonial America. This fact will allow to know some of the own characteristics of these clergymen who still are unknown. The record of merits is a type of documentation that is very standardized. For this reason, is necessary to elaborate an explanatory model on the virtues that the chaplains of the Navy had to expose if they were to have successful and to achieve the concession of the royal grace. In this way, the military, ecclesiastic and academic merits of the solicitors will be analyzed, as well as the network of social relations that they could mobilize to obtain his pretensions.
