Resumen

A 2-month-old intact male European shorthair kitten with a 2-week history of exercise intolerance and progressive dyspnea at rest was evaluated. Thoracic radiographs were taken, and a disseminated, severe, patchy alveolar pattern with air bronchograms affecting bilaterally the entire lung field was seen in both radiographic views. Consolidation of the left caudal lung lobe was also suspected. An echocardiographic exam revealed no cardiac abnormalities. A helical computed tomography of the thorax was performer for investigation purposes, and an increased attenuation of the alveolar space with severe segmental lung consolidation was observed. In the no consolidated regions, multifocal and patchy areas of ground-glass densities, thickening of the bronchial walls and peribronchial cuffing were visualized. Definitive diagnosis was reached trough necropsy, which yielded histological examination of lung tissue and revealed the presence of a severe verminous pneumonia, due to a massive infestation of Aelurostrongylus abstrusus.
