Resumen

The more traditional view conceives knowledge management as a tool aimed at facilitating innovation. This research focuses on the needs created by the innovative behavior of firms that are covered by the adoption of knowledge management systems. The main contribution is to fill a gap by deeply examining the causal relationship between knowledge and innovation. Data from over 12,000 Spanish companies confirmed the adoption of knowledge management systems in response to needs by the companies involved in innovation processes.
