Abstract

This study presents the results of a mapping study related to the use of wireless technology in nursing education. Original articles found in Medline and Science@Direct, published between January 1970 and August 2011 were used as information source. Articles dealing with the use, review, application, opinion and experimentation of clickers in nursing education were included. A total of 18 articles were selected and extracted using a predefined search string. The use of wireless devices has gained an increasing interest in the last five years, especially the use of clickers. This mapping study highlights the need for ongoing research to empirically study the use of clickers in nursing education. This study also identifies the need for a metaanalysis of empirical evidence on the impact of clickers in nursing education, in order to draw firm conclusions about their adoption.
