Abstract
Relation between efficient reading and availability of lexical orthographic repre- sentations is analyzed in Uruguayan and Spanish college students. Using regression analysis methodology we try to explain an assessment of efficient reading (TECLE) with orthographic knowledge scores (TECOR). It is demonstrated the important role of orthographic knowledge in efficient reading. This relation is greater in the Uruguayan sample than in the Spanish. This data is interpreted within the frame of studies about orthographic depth in literacy learning and reading processing.
