Résumé

The purpose of this study was to analyse if the Spanish version of the Task and Ego Orientation in Sport Questionnaire or TEOSQ is a valid and reliable instrument to be used in PE research. The instrument was administrated to a representative sample of 6,170 secondary school students, between 12 and 19 years old, from the provinces of Almeria, Granada and Murcia (South of Spain). Confirmatory factor analysis supported the hypothesised two-factor (task and ego orientation) theoretical model for the Spanish version of the TEOSQ-12PE. The low correlation between factors demonstrated the independence of the factors. The alpha coefficients evidenced an acceptable internal consistency for the two sub-scales. The Spanish version of TEOSQ has been successfully adapted for use within the context of physical education. The results show significant gender differences: male students had higher ego orientation than female students.
