Abstract

The sagittal lumbar curvature was evaluated in a sample of 50 young male adults (mean age: 24.3 ± 5.4 years) with an inclinometer while relaxed standing and during the standing triceps overhead extension exercise. Mean lumbar lordosis during the exercise (concentric and eccentric phases) and while standing were 37.36 ± 12.23º, 36.18 ± 12.25º and 30.81 ± 6.80º, respectively (p < 0.05). The post-hoc analysis showed significant differences (p < 0.016) between standing and both phases of the exercise. With regards to normality values, there was a greater percentage of hyperlordotic postures when performed the exercise (between 39,4% and 45,5%) than in the standing position (9,1%). In conclusion, we recommend perform the exercise in other position for reducing the lumbar hyperlordotic postures.
