Resumen

Objective:to improve compliance with physical therapy exercises for the low back through the acquisition of motor skills, practice, and continued used of the exercises learned. Material and methods: we recruited 35 subjects, age range 9 to 10 years, from the same school, class and group. None of them had undergone physical therapy before. In three sessions, they were taught physical therapy exercises for the low back (1 hour a week). Practice at home and in school were controlled by self-monitoring. The study lasted 8 weeks. Results:the rate of compliance with physical therapy exercises for the low back was higher than the rate of non-compliance. Conclusions: our intervention designed to improve compliance with a physical therapy regimen for the low back was effective, with a rate of compliance of 90-100%. Regular physical therapy exercises for the low back promotes the integration of physical therapy in health education programs and facilitates group therapy. Moreover, the application of behavioral programs at school facilitates the natural acquisition of good motor habits in childhood.
