Abstract
In the Seventies, with the development of the to computer science technology, series of programs were born. Their purpose was to manage spatial data. In the fi rst moments powerful instruments were needed to be able to work with them. The Geographic Information Systems (SIG) offer several advantages in relation to conventional cartography, since they allow to handle internally referenced spatial data, to produce thematic maps and to process digital information off their automatic nature. Computers technology advances in PC´s have been corresponded with more powerful and easier to handle SIG. Perhaps, the most important contributions of SIG, is the reference frame where it is organized and its capacity to make geographic analyses. SIG have not been used in sports, in this work we present a system based on GIS, for soccer. The system collects all data thru a GPS (Global Position System). Data are registered, fi led and analyzed using a software developed after SIG.
