Résumé

The letters of Liciniano reveal, in a general manner, many of the cultural and ideological characteristics of his time. In the study we present the hypothesis, based on the study of the terrninology used in the letters. that the culture in this society and epoch constitutes a whole. The Bishop is presented as a figure which links the Classical and Medieval periods and is in contact which practically al1 the cultural elite of the Western world by means of the port in Carthago Nova.
