Resum

The measurement of emotional intellenge and related skills in younth children still beingchallenging. Mestre (2001) has proposed a test of emotional perception for children .This work aims to test and study the psychometric propieties of PERCEVAL. A total of83 children (39 boys and 44 girls, Mean age 4.95; DT = 21). Took part in this study. Themeasurement used were: a) the PERCEVAL, a 16 items test, that assess socio-emotionalcompetence in children from 3 to 6 years old. specifically the perception and valorationin basic emotions expresions (joy, fear, sadness, angryness, disliking sorprises). Students are asked to identify emotions in pictures of faces; point out what expresion should beshown in a certain situation. Finally students should discriminate a specificemotion intwo characters. b) The EQ-i:YV-O, the parents of participants did complete the questionaireabout their child emotional intelligence, it assess intrapersonal and interpersonalskills, stress management, adaptability and general mood. The results point out that itemsin which children need to identify anger are more dificult, whereas the identification ofjoy and sadness is easy for kinds. Regarding the structure of the test, two main componentswere optained: the first component is composed of “easy items” (eigenvalue 3.28;accounted variance 20.51%) , whereas the second component is composed of “dificultitems” (eigenvalue 1.67; acounted variance 10.49%). Regarding the correlation betweenEQ-i:YV-O and PERCEVAL the correlation were small and not statistically significant;thus both test are measuring diferent aspects of Emotional Intelligence
