Zusammenfassung

The Algerian barbel is an endemic fish from the Maghreb. This study presents data on the age and growth of a population located in a man-made lake with important temporal variation in water temperatures and volume. We provide information of the biology testing whether the annual-dynamic differs in age and size structure, growth and somatic conditions. Age determination showed 11 cohorts characterized by the dominance of middle-age individuals (4+ - 7+). There were no high growth rates in individuals older than 4+ (annual growth rates in length < 12.5%). Abundance showed slight differences between seasons probably related to reproductive migrations to the stream, and somatic condition showed the highest values just after the reproduction period.
