Resumo

Recent studies about school violence indicate that it is one of the most important problems in developed countries in this moment, with prevalence between 20-30%. Aggression is considered a multidimensional concept that can be divided in two components: direct and indirect. Some authors suggest that aggressive behavior at school is related to impulsivity and the tendency to react quickly and without of reflection. We present a cross-sectional study with a sample of 181 adolescent students, 49.2% women and 44.2% men, between 14 and 19 years old. We use a self-taught questionnaire that included Scale Barratt's impulsiveness and Violent School Conduct Scale to assess if there was a relation between the two constructs. In our study, we observed a moderate relation between the different dimensions of impulsivity and the violent behavior, except for the instrumental aggression, in which we did not find any relation. We also got significant differences when comparing the sex of the participants with impulsivity and violent behavior. Our findings are consistent with the literature, where there is indicated that impulsivity is related more with the non-planned aggression and that there are different ways of been violent between boys and girls.
