Abstract

The renovation of educational historiography, operated along the last decades in the last century has led to the historical research, knowledge and teaching practices, the emergence of new eyes to approach the study, the interpretation, dissemination and teaching of the history of this educational phenomena. One of the emerging trends appeared in the mid-nineties, due to the idea that Dominique Julia put forward. This idea considers the school culture as a historical object. She says that we can find the material culture of the school in a school culture where its building elements are in interaction with others such us actor or speeches. The appearance of these historiographical trends has led us to the need of detecting and using new sources in order to analyze multiple associated forms, such us material culture. One of these sources are the catalogues of teaching materials, published and distributed periodically by Publisher, booksellers and stores which have been launching and offering to schools, administrations, students and public in general presenting their own materials as well as other objects made by Spanish manufacturers or imported from different countries. These catalogues have been emerged as a key source for understanding in deep the history of education material, for example, the history of the school curriculum, the school subjects or the childhood education. The main aim of our communication is to analyze the potential of these catalogues presented as a educational resource for teaching the history of the education subject.
