Abstract

ABSTRACT Title: Clinical Profile and Personality in Dual Diagnosis. Introduction: The related substance use disorders are one of the most important problems in public health. The high rate of psychiatric comorbidity accompanying the addictive disorders has attracted in recent years the interest of the professionals in this field. The fundamental objective of this thesis it has been to study the sociodemographic, clinical, personality and emotional intelligence (EI) of a sample of patients with dual diagnosis (PD). Under the main hypothesis that they present a profile maladjusted in personality traits, IE and symptoms that vary according to sex and main substance of use. Method: Participants: 295 patients with PD were studied in the Hospital Unit of Addictive Behaviors of Hospital de Caridad de Cartagena. The sample with 29.2% of women had a mean age of 36.12 years (d.t 9.081). According to the main substance of use a 29.2% they were dependent of alcohol, 26.80% cocaine, 21.4% of cannabis and 22.7% alcohol more cocaine. Instruments: It was used an ad hoc questionnaire to record clinical sociodemographic, as well as consumption patterns. Personality traits were evaluated with the Personality Factor Questionnaire (16PF-5), as well as Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI-III). EI was evaluated with the Constructive Thinking Inventory (CTI) and psychic symptoms by the 90 Symptoms Questionnaire (SCL90-R). Design: It was used, a cross-sectional cohort, defined by the main substance consumer use. Results: The vast majority began consumption before 25 years old, often make daily use of the substance, with difficulties to maintain abstinence over six months. They are observed significant differences in terms of the substance of consumption variables, age, marital status, education level, associated psychiatric diagnosis, age of onset and frequency of consumption. The sample is characterized by a maladjusted profile personality traits with low EI, and varied psychological symptoms. Specifically, they found significant differences according to sex in some of the factors and dimensions of the 16PF-5, indicators of personality and Clinical Syndromes of the MCMI-II and variable emotions of CTI. Finally, significant differences were observed in terms of the main substance of use in sensitivity and hardness of the 16PF-5 variables in some of the indicators and clinical syndromes of MCMI-III and in-Phobic Anxiety and Anxiety scales SCL90-R. The typical demographic profile in these patients shows a male, around 36 years old, single, who lives with the family of origin, without children, with primary education, unemployed and with middle socioeconomic level. Clinically presents a previous history in differents specialized treatments. Diagnostics mostly associated to the substance use disorders, are the TP with the highest prevalence of the disorder limit. Conclusions: The present work provides a better understanding of the patient with PD treated at the Network of Mental Health and Addictions of the Region of Murcia. The clinical and personality characteristics identified and observed, the identified clinical and personality characteristics and the observed differences in function of sex and substance of consumption, could contribute to improving the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of these patients.
