Abstract

1.SUMMARY. We present a detailed study of benign parotid tumors during the years 2005 to 2014 of the Region of Murcia. The importance of this thesis lies in the large number of benign parotid tumors found and, in particular, the pleomorphic adenoma, and the need to show more conservative surgycal techniques. We studied 254 cases and an estimate of 220 benign epithelial tumors of the parotid gland, reviewing the clinical and surgical records of patients with bibliographic support, with 12 tables and 45 figures, including graphics and noting the differences found in different variables in two areas health, with references to another area and other European regions. This has been studied variables: sex, age, location, laterality, tumor size, year of surgery, main diagnosis and relapse, in H Universitario Virgen de la Arrixaca from Murcia (area I), H Universiario Santa Lucia from Cartagena (area II) and H General Universitario Reina Sofia from Murcia (area VII) hospitals, emphasizing the last two, as to the total it has estimated the first one data. Our results show the highest number of pleomorphic adenoma and the low rate of recurrence. We conclude by studying exhaustively, surgical techniques (Superficial parotidectomy and extracapsular lumpectomy) used in our region that the lumpectomy, with less surgical aggression, the same results are obtained.
