Zusammenfassung

Since 2011, the research group of Ruminant Health of the University ofMurcia and the Spanish Association of the Malagueña Goat Breed haveworked together on an epidemiological surveillance programme to preventand control contagious agalactia (CA). Therefore, diagnosis of this diseasewas performed on bulk tank milk and mastitis samples and also on goat buckfrom different farms involved in the programme. As a result, over the last 5years 1404 samples have been analysed, resulting in 4534 laboratoryanalyses. The subsequent application of specific preventive and controlmeasures has allowed to constantly monitoring the status of CA in thedifferent herds, and thus, a significant reduction of the incidence of thisdisease and of the number of infected flocks has been observed. Hence, theresults obtained clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of this kind ofprogrammes.
