Resumo
Apple and Google have achieved a dominant position in the mobile ecosystem. That supremacy is based on their capacity to set up powerful technological platforms that involve, besides the complicity of users, the cooperation of software developers, content producers, content aggregators, telecom companies and device vendors. This paper considers the process through which Apple and Google, by means of the development of these powerful platforms, have entered the content distribution business, marginalizing the former ecosystem leader –Nokia– and making useless most of telecoms sector efforts to get some position of privilege in the content business. The approach to these market moves is made in the light of some of the current theories on technological platforms and raises the issue of mobile platforms becoming private regulation spaces.
