Zusammenfassung

The objective of this study was to determine and compare different motivational profiles present in aquatic and terrestrial exercisers. Gender differences on motivation in aquatic and terrestrial activities were also analyzed. Two samples were used, one of 311 aquatic exercisers and another one of 468 terrestrial exercisers. Self-determined motivation in exercise (BREQ-2) and motives for physical activity (MPAM-R) were the analyzed variables. The results of the cluster analysis revealed the existence of two motivational profiles in both aquatic and terrestrial samples: a self-determined profile, with higher scores in intrinsic motivation and identified regulation than in introjected and external regulations; and a profile with high scores both in self-determined and non-self-determined motivation. In both samples, the second profile showed higher scores in the different motives for physical activity participation. Women revealed more positive motivation than men in aquatic activities, while there were no gender differences in the terrestrial ones.
