Resumen
Chronobiology is the branch of biology concerned with the periodicity occurring in physiological processes. While its applications have been widely studied in multiple medical areas, in the clinical laboratory there are new research opportunities with the incorporation of artificial intelligence. We are familiar to associate some hormone levels with their extraction time (cortisol or melatonin). However, there are very few studies evaluating the presence of circadian variation in other parameters tested in the clinical laboratory. Correctly recording the timing of the specimen collection in the laboratory information systems could provide relevant information for research and interpretation studies in this discipline. We want to introduce some basic concepts of chronobiology and to promote research in this field.
