Resum

This work provides an analysis of the construction 'X no, lo siguiente', which has recently appeared in the Spanish language featuring several properties that make it highly worthy of interest from a scientific point of view. lts examination undertaken in this article will draw upon theoretical concepts of cognitive linguistics (especially the cognitive theory of metaphor and the principies of linguistic iconicity), additionally proving that the construction under study specializes in expresssing quantification (and particularly, the superlative degree), a scalar quantification based on a spatial dimension. lndeed, as will be explained in our study, the structure 'X no, lo siguiente' stems from a metaphorical conception of SPACE and conceptualizes quantification and degree as a way to move ahead on a PATH; thus, going up a degree implics covering stages in space, whereas going down a degree means returning to previous milestones on the road traveled.
