Abstract

Educational styles made by parents have been the target of extensive research, coinciding many of them in the existence of four styles, based on the initial proposal Baumrind, the have called overprotective, inhibicionista, punitive and assertive. Educational styles are not fixed traits of action against the education of children, but it varies continuously depending on the different parent-child interactions and the social context where they develop. The four parenting styles are not distributed in the population so pure, but combined, where predominate the combination of several of them. The objective of this research is to assess the distribution of mixed educational styles and if correlated with socioeconomic variables. The sample consisted of 121 parents / mothers participating in training issues for mothers / parents in schools. The results show that the dominant style in subjects is assertive, without the combination of other styles, contradicting our hypothesis mixed styles. Only indicate the existence of two groups of subjects with mixed styles, the Assertive / Punitive and Assertive / overprotective. Sociodemographic characteristics of these groups are valued and validity of mixed groups is discussed.
