Abstract

The purpose of the study was to analyze the relationship between the manner of execution and efficacy in elite female beach volleyball players. A total of 71 sets of 22 women’s teams from the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008 were analyzed. The variables studied were: attack zone, attack type, the presence of block, defense type, defense zone, defense efficacy, and the result of the rally. The results showed the manner of execution was influenced by the attack action. The possibility to intercept the ball affected the manner of execution and its efficacy. The defenses closed to the body (forearm technique) were more frequent and had higher efficacy when the ball was contacted. When the situation required the use of other techniques the efficacy was lower. The results provide reference values to analyze objectively female players in the competition and to guide their training (design and goal-setting).
