Resumen

This contribution deals with the categorization of scientific-didactic materials used for the teaching of life in classrooms, cabinets and laboratories in several historical educational centres of Spain. We study the genesis, manufacturing characteristics, functionality and didactical use of these materials. A multidisciplinary approach between biology and history of education. From the idea of the “fossil object” or “footprint object” we establish a starting point to create a taxonomy of the scientific teaching material, differentiating between representative material, collections of living organisms (or parts of them) and instruments (optical and experimental).
