Abstract

Objective: to characterize the chemical structure of a tooth with molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH) and amelogenesis imper-fecta (AI).Material and method: three samples of a tooth were used: healthy, with MIH and hypocalcified-type AI. The chemical composition of the samples was determined by Raman spectroscopy and the enamel crystallinity was calculated by the mineral/organic ratio and the full width half maximum (FWHM). Results: variance ANOVA analysis was applied. Significant dif-ferences were observed (p < 0.05) between the healthy tooth and the teeth with enamel defects. Conclusion: the inorganic content of the teeth with enamel defects is lower than that of healthy teeth.
