Multicomputers and transputer networks are becoming very popular, because they have a very good performance / cost ratio. The interconnection network is the bottleneck for these machines, especially when processes exchange messages very frequently. In this paper we present a new way to solve this problem: the dynamic reconfiguration of the topology of the interconnection network. To understand how it works we also describe a reconfiguration algorithm we have developed. Moreover, this new approach is very well suited for parallel applications whose communication pattern varies over time.
