The thesis "LAWLESSNESS AND ECONOMICS: commercial piracy and copying by end consumers" ("Desorden y economía: piratería comercial y copia por consumidores finales"), by Francisco Martínez Sánchez, analysis those markets where the product can be illegally copied and sold by a single firm (which is known as commercial piracy) or copied by end consumers. The thesis consists of two parts. The first part studies commercial piracy and is composed of three chapters. The first chapter analyzes the roles of the government and the incumbent in preventing commercial piracy, and the reasons why a pirate \ want to be a leader in prices. The second chapter is focus on the government's policy in controlling piracy through monitoring and penalizing the illegal s a pirated product. The last chapter of this part criticizes some results obtained by Gil (2006). The second part studies the fact that end consumers can copy products and is composed of one chapter, in which the author develops a model that lets us analyze the behavior of a multiproduct monopolist, a duopolist and consumers, where these last are able to learn by copying.Gil, R.
