Doctor by the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid with the thesis La creación léxica en Tirso de Molina contribución al estudio histórico del léxico español 2011. Supervised by Dr. Pedro Álvarez de Miranda.

The research interests of David Prieto García-Seco lie within the fields of the history of Spanish lexicon and the linguistic historiography of Spanish, specifically the history of Spanish lexicography. His Ph.D. Thesis, supervised by Prof. Álvarez de Miranda and publicly defended in the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 2011, is entitled La creación léxica en Tirso de Molina. Contribución al estudio histórico del léxico español (Lexical creativity in Tirso de Molina. Contribution to the historical study of Spanish lexicon). His Ph.D. Thesis was awarded the Outstanding Doctorate Achievement Award (“Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado”). He has published the books Cuatro siglos de lexicografía española. La recepción de Tirso de Molina en los diccionarios del español (2014) and Un eslabón recuperado de la lexicografía española. La reimpresión retocada del Diccionario académico de 1780 (2021), and has contributed to journals such as Boletín la Real Academia Española, Rilce, Revista de Lexicografía, Revista de Filología Románica, Dicenda. Cuadernos de Filología Hispánica, Estudis Romànics, Revista de Filología Española or Verba. Anuario Galego de Filoloxía. He has also written book chapters on the Spanish lexicon and on dictionaries, especially those issued during the 19th and 20th centuries. Since 2012 he has collaborated with Rinconete, the e-journal of the Centro Virtual del Instituto Cervantes, where he has published articles on the history of the Spanish lexicon. Besides, he has also contributed to the Diccionario biográfico español, published by the Real Academia de la Historia. Dr. Prieto has participated in more than forty conferences (several of which are international), where he has presented the results of his research in invited talks, papers and posters. He has been invited to deliver lectures at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, as well as in Spanish and foreign universities (Universidad de Alcalá de Henares, Complutense University of Madrid, University of Granada, University of Huelva; University of Leipzig -Germany-, St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia -Bulgaria-, University of Innsbruck -Austria-, University of Thondheim -NTNU, Norway-, Masaryk University -Czech Republic-). He was able to start his research career thanks to a research grant within the programme Formación de Profesorado Universitario (FPU, 2004-2008). In 2008, he started to work at the Department of Spanish and Linguistics at the University of Murcia as Ayudante (Assistant Lecturer), where he now holds a position of Profesor Titular de Universidad —Senior Lecturer (tenured)— and teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the field of Spanish language. He has coordinated for four years the Master's Degree in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics (MALTA) at the University of Murcia. At the moment, he is General Editor of Revista de Investigación Lingüística.
