Abstract

In this article, we propose approaching the study of the far right using the focus group technique. To this end, we analyze the discourse of Vox voters by employing five focus groups, applying a CAQDAS procedure (Computer-Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software) that includes inductive coding, co-occurrence analysis, and network graph creation, assisted by ATLAS.ti and Python software. As a result, we conclude that the effectiveness of the focus group technique for studying the far right is maximized when transcending an analysis centered solely on verbatim statements and incorporating a quantitative approach into the study of qualitative data. This integration facilitates the processing of complex discursive patterns. Our analytical framework has enabled us to identify a remarkable thematic diversity and complexity within the discourse of Vox voters. This complexity becomes politically operational when effectively articulated through certain key concepts that function as nodal points of discourse—such as censorship, in connection with national identity and cultural battle issues, or immigration, in relation to security concerns and economic issues.
