Abstract

The Spanish Gallina Murciana (GM), a local breed, exhibits remarkable rusticity and resilience to adverse conditions, albeit facing the threat of extinction due to its low productivity. This study assesses a crossbreeding (GM50) between the Gallina Murciana(GM100) and the Hubbard JA757 strain (GM0), aiming to develop an alternative product that enhances the meat qualities of GM100 while preserving its survival traits. Throughout the trial, the GM50 line showed intermediate growth compared to the parental lines, tending towards the characteristics of GM100. Furthermore, both GM50 and GM100 demonstrated a similar carcass distribution, with a notable increase in breast yield (3.2%), while the percentage of hindquarters remained comparable. Overall, the resultsdemonstrated the commercial viability of the GM50 line, which contributes to enhancing the productivity of the Murciana breed without compromising its traditional virtues.
