Abstract
In recent years, historiography has been paying attention to all the socialrelationships articulated within the Catholic Church. It is not strange because, after all, access to an ecclesiastical career was one of the usual ways of social ascent used by intermediate groups, in such a way that having a clergyman (or a nun) in the kin group was part of family strategies. This work tries to analyze the weight that social relationships of all kinds had on the ecclesiastical careers of the prebendaries of the Cathedral of Murcia, who represented its lower scale. It should be noted that the cathedral chapter was one of the local institutions with the most power and prestige, so joining it was not always easy, least when different institutions and groups participated in the forms of entry. Hence, the relational capital resources that the candidate or his family could use became essential to achieve the success of the claim. Everything that has just been referred to will be verified through case studiespertaining to how different prebendaries accessed the cathedral chapter.
