Abstract

The Casino of Lorca has a long history of intellectual, artistic, literary and recreational activities and its special character has left its hallmark on the pages of newspapers and archive documents. The local elite were entertained in its salons by roundtable discussions, exhibitions, lectures and performances, which hold a distinguished internal history that, notwithstanding social and political conflicts, has survived admirably the vicissitudes of time and economic problems. It’s General Board and Board of Directors has maintained a heritage which makes this building a unique institution as the principal and most ancient recreational centre of this town.
