Abstract
The crossed categorization traditional way of presentation involves an in-crease of discrimination towards the outgroup. Because of this problem, alternative ways of presentation must be looked for. The "minimum crossed categorization" consists of activating, by means of a priming, the ingroup ownership of the crossed group. This procedure can be ineffective in the reduction of discrimination toward the crossed group due to the fact that the cognitive content activated through the priming is not always used in the impression formation (Martin, 1986). In this study we analysed the influence of a conscious, but independent of the impression formation process, priming on the reduction of discrimination toward a crossed group member. Results, even though they do not start from a situation of intergroup bias in the simple categorization condition, show that with a minimum crossed categorization, evaluations given to a crossed group member do not improve, but on the contrary, worsen.
