Abstract
The aim of this article is to study conceptions of temporal power towards the end of Antiquity that associated the tyrant’s despotic authority with the presence of the Devil, either as a source of inspiration or as a monarch himself. Particular attention is paid to the cases of the magician Cyprian and the Emperor Justinian.
