Abstract

This study analyzed teaching and learning approaches taken by students and teachers in the last cycle of primary education, the impact of certain variables and the relationship between the incentives and strategies of students, and the intentions and strategies of teachers. A nonexperimental, quantitative survey research design was used, with the Approaches to Teaching Inventory (known as CEE in Spanish) and the Learning Approaches Questionnaire for Primary and Secondary Education (known as CEAPS in Spanish). The data was analyzed with the statistical package SPSS 20. The results show that students prefer to adopt a high-performance approach followed by a deep approach, and teachers mostly use an approach centered on conceptual change in students.
